How to Qualify for Pell Grant?

Students can get funds for higher education from U.S. Federal government. One of the way is to explore Federal Pell Grant helping students to cover education expenses. The US government also provides low interest student loans. There is basic difference between Pell Grant and Federal Student Loans. Pell Grant never needs to be paid back in other words it is free money for college if student is eligible.

Following is the list of main criteria to be considered for Federal Grant:

1. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.

2. Applicant must be enrolled in a program to get a Bachelor's Degree meaning the applicant can not obtain a Pell Grant just to take some courses or other than Bachelor degree. Also student already graduated from Bachelor degree trying to obtain a second Bachelor's degree is also ineligible for Pell Grant.

3. The student must be admitted into degree program. He/she need to be fully accepted into the school and attending school to get degree.

Once student meet above requirements, he/she may be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant to get extra money for school. Next step to submit application known as Federal Financial Aid called the FAFSA. The FAFSA can be filled out online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This application is used by federal government and by the colleges to determine a student's financial needs.

The FAFSA is designed to determine how much is the student's family income and how much the family could contribute each year for the student's education. Pell Grant amount per student is increasing each year. Student should not miss applying for Pell Grant and submit FAFSA application.
