Question: What can I buy with Federal Pell Grant funds?
I received a Federal Pell Grant that will more than cover tuition expenses for the upcoming semester (I will have about $1,300 left over). Am I able to use the leftover funds to buy software from the school (Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc)? Or is this money ONLY for tuition and textbooks. Please reply if you know or have been in the same position. This is the first semester I have gotten a grant and would like to purchase some software that is otherwise extremely expensive. I appreciate any responses.

Anything at all. Food, booze, drugs, women (or men). Or, you know, text books and stuff. You don't have to report to the government what you spent it on...they just assume you'll spend it on "the cost of living".

yes you can buy software with it. It is not ONLY for textbooks. You might shop around though... you might get a better deal going and buying it somewhere else. Any left over Pell money is issued to you a few weeks after the semester starts. You can use it for living expenses, groc, gas, textbooks cheaper on eBay... Be aware through, if you are planning on going to college NEXT summer, you will have used all your Pell in the spring and fall semesters if you go full time. You might opt to save it so you don't have to take out a student loan for the summer. I would encourage you to enroll in more hours as well. Taking only 12 hours a semester is a mistake (no matter how much the schools will push it). You have to take at least 15 hours in the fall and the spring to graduate on time. Good luck

Question: Can I apply for a pell grant before being enrolled in college?
I have submitted application to them but thats all I have doen. I don't know if its accepted or not and I still have to send transcripts from previous college

Answer: Wait until you have heard whether or not you are accepted, ...
Wait until you have heard whether or not you are accepted, then file the government form(s) called the FAFSA, which stands for Free Application for Student Aid. They will look at all of the information contained within those forms and that will determine your eligibility for state and federal Pell Grants along with any subsidized and unsubsidized loans you may qualify for. Without being enrolled at a college, you cannot receive money for the education. They need proof that the money is going to the school.

Answer: Yes, you can fill out the FAFSA and include the choices of ...
Yes, you can fill out the FAFSA and include the choices of schools you are considering. I believe they give you up to five choices.

YES ask the FINAID department at your school...i don't see why not..a lot of people do this because there out of pocket expense is too much or there EFC is out of control...ask around

It depends, most likely you can though. You need to contact your financial aid office for answers to these questions. Providing the amount of the grant did not meet your total cost of attendance budget at the school, you would be eligible to borrow additional funding. Your aid office can tell you what types to borrow first (federal) and how much you would be eligible to borrow. Start there, not on Yahoo. *wink*

Yep, you sure can! Luckily, it?s generally realized that not everyone can get completely covered from the Pell Grant, so you do have other options. If you need more money for college, student loans are a viable option. If you want to, you should check out http://www.tuitionbids.com, a company I represent, which allows you to apply for several private loans all at once. (You should also apply for fed loans) It?s a great option for trying to figure out which loan option you should take. If you have any other questions, the FAQ section http://www.tuitionbids.com/student-loan-tools-and-advice/college-frequently-asked-questions.aspx has some fantastic information that?s easy to understand. Good luck on your search, and congrats on your venture into college. It?ll be a blast! -Lauren
